Grant’s New Legislation Seeks to Suspend Motor Fuel Tax Increase; Remove Redundant Testing for New Drivers
I have filed the first bills of my term in the 103rd General Assembly – HB1221 and HB1528
HB1221 makes changes to the state’s Motor Fuel Tax. My proposal pauses the tax increase on the sale of motor fuel in Illinois until July 1, 2023 with hopes to lessen the burden Illinois Drivers have felt at the pump due to persistent inflation.
HB1528 eliminates redundant testing at the DMV for new drivers. The proposal establishes that a first-time applicant for a driver’s license shall not be required to perform a road test upon verification of successful completion of a certified public school, nonpublic school, or private training school driver’s education course. This change will decrease wait times at the DMV, increase customer satisfaction, and most importantly save tax payer money!
Donate Blood at the Car Show

Versiti’s 2023 Chicago Auto Show Dennis Buckley Memorial Blood Drive will run through Feb. 11th through Feb. 20th at McCormick Place. Drive in and donate blood, then enjoy the Chicago Auto Show! All attempting donors will receive a free commemorative Versiti T-shirt, while supplies last. You can find Versiti’s booth at the South Hall, in the southwest corner next to Food Service and Jeep track.

STEM Field Trips and Local History
One of Chicago’s most unique museums is giving schools an opportunity to learn through iconic car history. Klairmont Kollections Automotive Museum is offering field trips to school districts in and around Chicago. The nonprofit museum is using a $30,000 fund to help pay for students and teachers to visit and experience Chicago’s one-of-a-kind automotive showcase and the generations of automotive art, engineering and science under the hoods. Klairmont Kollections Automotive Museum prides itself on being a hub for education (STEAM/STEM), preservation and automotive heritage. Field Trips are available for students from 4th grade through collegiate levels. If interested email info@klairmontkollections.com
