I rose on the House floor this week to recognize National Nurses week which takes place annually from May 6th to May 12th and is a time when we pause to recognize the invaluable contributions that nurses make to our communities, our state, and our nation.
Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system. They work tirelessly, day in and day out, to provide compassionate and expert care to the people of Illinois. From the smallest rural clinics to the largest urban hospitals, nurses are there to offer support, comfort, and healing. They are often the first point of contact for patients seeking medical attention and the last to say goodbye when treatment is complete.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we witnessed the unwavering dedication of nurses as they faced unprecedented challenges. They risked their own health and safety to care for those who were suffering, often working long hours under extreme conditions. Their courage and commitment to their profession are a testament to their character and an inspiration to us all.
I urge my fellow members to join me in acknowledging the vital role nurses play in our society. Let us commit to supporting their ongoing education and professional development, as well as advocating for policies that prioritize their well-being. Let us express our heartfelt gratitude for their selfless service, their sacrifices, and their unwavering dedication to the health of our communities.
To all nurses across Illinois and beyond, we say thank you. Your work is seen, appreciated, and deeply valued. Happy National Nurses Week!
