WHEATON – A successful Breakfast Legislative Roundtable this morning with the school districts of the 47th District! ?
At this multi-school district legislative roundtable, we discussed a variety of challenges facing students, families, teachers, and school districts.
The first half of the roundtable was spent discussing student needs emerging from a post-pandemic world. The challenges of chronic absenteeism, learning loss, and economic struggles were major concerns. The role of after-school clubs and groups, the significance of parent involvement in the PTA, the importance of special education and individual education plans also were emphasized by attendees.
The second part of our conversation revolved around the mental health challenges our students face. We discussed an impactful program in collaboration with Edward Elmhurst Health that covers up to 8 therapy sessions per child, benefiting students across 9 school districts in DuPage county. Future considerations to keep that program alive include adjusting to 6 covered sessions with family insurance stepping in to cover the remainder, and introducing tele-health options to provide flexible and convenient schedules.
? Naperville School District 203 – Known for its graduation rate of 96% and 4 Blue Ribbon awards. #Elevate203
? Indian Prairie School District 204 – Proudly standing as the fourth-largest in Illinois with an exceptional academic record.
? Community Unit School District 200 – Consistently aiming for excellence, evidenced by their AP Honor Roll placement.
Grateful for the opportunity to represent and work alongside these education providers in the 47th district. Here’s to working for our students’ futures!
