Wheaton, IL — State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) proudly recognizes Taylor Slaby, an 11-year-old student entering the 6th grade at Wheaton Christian Academy School, for her outstanding achievement in earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award. The Bronze Award is one of the highest honors a Girl Scout Junior can earn and is awarded to young women who demonstrate exceptional leadership and dedication to community service.
“Taylor’s dedication and commitment to improving literacy in our community is inspiring,” said Representative Grant. “At such a young age, she has demonstrated not only leadership but also a deep understanding of the impact that early learning can have on a child’s future. I am proud to recognize her for this well-deserved accomplishment.”
Since April, Taylor Slaby has been on a mission to raise awareness about the importance of early reading and learning programs in her community. Over the course of approximately 30 hours, Taylor organized and led a project focused on promoting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program dedicated to providing free books to children from birth to age five.
Taylor’s efforts included interviewing professionals on the significance of early reading, speaking to and educating community leaders, engaging with churches and early learning centers, and distributing educational materials and posters to spread the word about the Imagination Library.
In addition to her passion for reading, Taylor is an avid violinist and enjoys participating in cross-country, track, golf, tennis, swimming, and fishing. She is a well-rounded young lady who values spending time with her family and her beloved dog.
The Girl Scout Bronze Award requires young scouts to identify a community issue, plan and execute a project to address it, and lead others in the effort. Taylor’s project not only met these criteria but exceeded expectations, showcasing her exceptional organizational and communication skills.
State Representative Amy Grant encourages the community to join her in congratulating Taylor Olivia Slaby on her achievement and to continue supporting initiatives that foster learning and growth among young individuals.
