ILLINOIS – State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) is encouraging all Illinois residents to join in recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. Each year, around 12,000 women in Illinois are diagnosed with breast cancer, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
“Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in the United States, but early detection can make all the difference,” said Rep. Grant. “When detected early, the five-year survival rate is nearly 99%. This underscores the importance of regular mammograms and proactive health screenings.”
Rep. Grant urges residents to take part in local awareness events, support loved ones impacted by the disease, and educate themselves on the importance of early detection. Regular screenings, like mammograms, can identify cancer before symptoms arise, offering the best chance for successful treatment.
