Rep. Amy Grant Files Legislation to Help Keep Illinois’ Environment Clean and Safe

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) has introduced legislation to keep Illinois’ environment clean and safe. HB1640 seeks to improve transparency and efficiency in addressing environmental contamination caused by leaking underground storage tanks. The bill would allow public notices of bids for clean-up projects to be published online and ensure timely and effective action to protect Illinois’ soil and water.

“Leaking underground storage tanks pose a serious threat to our environment, including our drinking water and soil,” said Rep. Grant. “This legislation streamlines the clean-up process by making bid notices more accessible to contractors and the public and allow us to respond faster and more effectively.”

The bill aims to modernize how Illinois addresses this particular environmental challenge and enhance transparency while safeguarding public health and natural resources. By allowing online publication of bid notices, the state can connect with a broader network of contractors and ensure competitive pricing and quicker clean-up efforts.

“Keeping our environment clean and safe is a priority,” added Rep. Grant. “This commonsense change will help us better protect Illinois’ natural resources for generations to come.”

The legislation is now under consideration in the 104th General Assembly.
