WHEATON, IL – State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) released the following statement after former Illinois House Speaker Michael J. Madigan was found guilty of conspiracy, bribery and wire fraud:
“Today’s guilty verdict is a long-overdue victory for accountability in Illinois. For decades, Michael Madigan controlled state government through corruption and backroom deals, putting personal gain ahead of the people he was elected to serve. This verdict confirms what many of us have known for years- Illinois needs stronger ethics laws to prevent this kind of abuse from happening again. It’s time to restore honesty and integrity to state government.”
