Rep. Grant Reacts to Pritzker’s $55.2 Billion Dollar Budget Proposal

SPRINGFIELD – In response to Governor Pritzker’s budget proposal, State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) is renewing calls for a fiscally responsible budget that protects Illinois families, seniors, and students without raising taxes.

“The Governor’s proposal is the largest budget in state history, increasing spending by nearly $2 billion,” said Grant. “Instead of cutting waste and making the government more efficient, he is relying on tax hikes and unrealistic revenue assumptions to fund his agenda.”

“Illinois already has some of the highest property taxes in the nation. At the same time, the state has spent over $2.8 billion on programs for undocumented immigrants—money that could have supported Illinois citizens instead.”

“The Governor’s plan includes $590 million in new taxes and budget gimmicks instead of real spending reforms,” Grant added. “We can’t keep asking hardworking families to pay for the state’s financial mismanagement. It’s time for responsible budgeting that puts Illinois taxpayers first.”

Rep. Grant and House Republicans will continue fighting for a balanced, responsible budget that lowers costs, stops reckless spending, and ensures tax dollars are spent wisely.
