House Republican Ethics Reform

House Republicans know that restoring public faith in government starts with holding lawmakers accountable. That’s why we’ve introduced a package of ethics reform bills aimed at rooting out corruption, closing long-abused loopholes, and bringing much-needed transparency to Illinois government.

These reforms include:

✅ Empowering the Legislative Inspector General to issue subpoenas without needing approval from the very people under investigation (HB 1382 – Rep. Spain).

✅Closing the “revolving door” that allows lawmakers to jump straight from public office to lobbying (HB 1385 – Rep. Spain and HB 3115 – Rep. Wilhour).

✅ Banning elected officials from using campaign funds for legal defense in criminal proceedings (HB 1554 – Rep. McCombie).

✅ Requiring a 72-hour public review of the state budget before any votes are taken (HB 2813 – Rep. Hammond).

✅ Implementing local government lobbying reforms, recusal guidelines, and more.

These are common-sense reforms that deserve bipartisan support. Unfortunately, supermajority Democrats refused to give any of these bills a hearing or a vote ❌🙅‍♀️👎

Illinoisans deserve better. I will continue to stand with Illinois House Republicans as we fight for real ethics reform. It’s time for the people of this state to trust their government.
