Springfield, IL – State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) once again took to the House floor to strongly oppose legislation that would legalize assisted suicide in Illinois. Rep. Grant, a long-time advocate for life, expressed deep concern about the consequences such a policy would have on vulnerable populations.
“I’m pro-life — that includes the unborn, the elderly, the disabled, and anyone who feels alone or hopeless,” said Grant. “Life is precious, and we should never treat it as disposable.”
Rep. Grant warned that the proposed bill opens the door to abuse and sends a dangerous message about the value of human life. She highlighted concerns raised by disability advocates, including from the respected organization Misericordia, who fear that people with developmental disabilities could be disproportionately affected and pushed aside.
“Our medical professionals should be focused on providing hope and healing — not a prescription for death,” Grant said. “We should be lifting people up, not glamorizing suicide.”
Grant reaffirmed her commitment to defending life at all stages and urged her colleagues to vote NO on the bill.
The legislation passed the Illinois House of Representatives on Thursday May 29th, 2025 by a vote of 63-42-2.
