Rep. Grant Joins Transparency Lawsuit

ILLINOIS – State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) has joined a lawsuit with fellow Republican legislators to enforce the Illinois Constitution’s Third Reading Rule, following the passage of Senate Bill 328 without proper legislative procedure.

“Our responsibility as lawmakers is to ensure transparency, accountability, and good government,” said Rep. Grant. “But we’re seeing a troubling trend where the majority party is cutting corners and ignoring the Constitution to rush legislation through. It’s careless and wrong.”

The Illinois Constitution requires that bills be read on three separate days in each chamber to give lawmakers and the public time to review proposals thoroughly. Republican lawmakers say that SB 328 bypassed this required process — another example of Democrats using their supermajority to avoid scrutiny.

“This isn’t how responsible governing is supposed to work,” said Grant. “Every time the majority ignores the rules, trust in the legislative process takes another hit. It’s time to put a stop to this carelessness.”

Senate Bill 328 is opposed by job creators across the state and is expected to increase abusive lawsuits — further evidence, according to Grant, that the bill deserved more thorough review.
