ILLINOIS – I am deeply saddened to report the loss of Illinois State Police Trooper Corey S. Thompsen, who tragically passed away following a collision while on duty. The 28-year-old trooper was completing a traffic enforcement detail on Friday afternoon when a truck entered an intersection in Champaign County and subsequently struck his motorcycle. Despite immediate aid from a witness and first responders, Trooper Thompsen was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Trooper Thompsen served the Illinois community with dedication for nearly five years. He was both a committed law enforcement officer and also a beloved husband, son, and brother.
The truck driver was cited for failure to yield at a stop intersection and for having an expired driver’s license. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
