Rep. Amy Grant Introduces Resolution to Promote Civic Architecture in Illinois Government Buildings

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) has introduced a resolution (HR93) to ensure Illinois’ public buildings reflect the state’s rich history, culture, and architectural legacy.

“Our public buildings should inspire pride and represent the values of the communities they serve,” said Rep. Grant. “This resolution promotes timeless architectural styles that connect us to our shared heritage while ensuring public input shapes these important spaces.”

The resolution calls for public buildings to:

  • Feature traditional and classical architectural styles that honor Illinois’ history.
  • Be visually recognizable as civic spaces.
  • Include input from Illinois residents in the design process.

The measure also directs the Illinois Capital Development Board to develop new architectural guidelines that prioritize these principles under oversight from the Governor’s Office.

“Illinois is home to a rich architectural legacy we should celebrate in the buildings we leave for future generations,” added Rep. Grant.

The resolution is now under consideration in the 104th General Assembly.
