Grant Proposes Tax Relief for Daycare Centers to Support Families and Children

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) has introduced legislation to exempt certain supplies purchased by daycare centers from sales taxes. House Bill 1639 is aimed at reducing the costs of childcare while ensuring Illinois children have the tools and resources they need to thrive.

“Childcare costs continue to rise and are putting a strain on families across Illinois,” said Rep. Grant. “This bill provides meaningful relief to daycare providers and enables them to invest in better resources for our children while helping parents keep more of their hard-earned money.”

The proposed tax exemption would apply to essential supplies such as educational materials, cleaning products, and other items necessary for day care operations. The legislation helps create a more affordable and supportive environment for families and young children by reducing the financial tax burden on daycare centers.

“Every child deserves a strong start,” added Rep. Grant. “This legislation is a step toward making childcare more affordable and giving daycare centers the resources to provide the highest level of care and education.”

The legislation is now under consideration in the 104th General Assembly.
