Grant Files Bill to Protect Voter Integrity in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) has introduced legislation to require county clerks to use death certificates to remove deceased individuals from voter rolls. The bill (HB1454) aims to reduce the chances of voter fraud and ensure Illinois elections remain fair and secure.

“Maintaining accurate voter rolls is critical to protecting the integrity of our elections,” said Rep. Grant. “Requiring county clerks to promptly remove deceased individuals from voter rolls is a common-sense step to prevent bad actors from exploiting outdated registration information.”

The legislation provides a straightforward process for using death certificates to update voter registration lists to ensure the accuracy and security of Illinois’ election system. The bill works to strengthen public confidence in local election authorities’ election process by closing a gap created by the naturally recurring cycle of registered voters passing away and new voters registering.

“Every Illinois voter deserves to know that our elections are fair, secure, and trustworthy,” added Rep. Grant. “This bill helps protect democracy while striving to ensure voter integrity for generations to come.”

The legislation is now under consideration in the 104th General Assembly.
